In Tribute to The Acorn
Ottawa’s The Acorn aren’t just one of the best bands going today (or in the world, ever, really), but lovely friends Woodpigeon has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with on more than one occasion (the above photograph of Rolf was taken during soundcheck at a show we played together in Hamburg in May of 2010). So when asked to contribute a remix or re-rendition of one of No Ghost‘s tunes, I was pretty ecstatic to oblige. Recorded in Visby, Sweden, here’s our little bit of 2010 love for The Acorn. (And there’s more where that came from – pick up Make the Least of the Day for a full album’s worth of covers and remixes by folks like FourTet, Chad VanGaalen, and Megafaun).

Fall always makes me think of the past, and the way things can change over just the course of one year. I think that’s what Autumn is meant to do. The world’s still relatively the same, just one year old, and missing its leaves. A giant Earth-size haircut, I suppose. Anyway. Enough clumsy metaphors. Here then, a recording of ‘…And as the Ship Went Down, You’d Never Looked Finer’, done solo acoustic for CJLO in Montreal. Even the songs themselves change over time – from a gentle picked banjo tune to what it is now.

Autumn Dispatch 3: Friendly Familiar Faces
The best thing about touring are those golden moments when you bump into a friend somewhere backstage at a festival, or spot them in the audience at one of your shows. At The End of the Road Festival, Montreal brother-from-another-mother Leif Vollebekk killed it in the Local Tent. Dude’s still in tour in Europe for a few days yet, so no better way to celebrate than finally unveil a pair of tracks from a joint session we did together at CJLO radio in Montreal last November, in tribute to Mr. Williams and Mr. Dylan. Swoon along.
